Performance descriptors for Key Stage 1 and 2 2015-2016

Latest information from the DFE regarding the removal of levels and the new performance decriptors for Mathematics and English during 2015-2016.

Assessment 2015-2016

In March 2014, the Department for Education (DfE) published an outline of the new assessment and accountability systems for primary schools.

The document explains that at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2) pupils will:

... continue to sit externally-set and marked tests in mathematics, reading, and grammar, punctuation and spelling. These will be used for school performance measures from 2016 onwards.

A sample of pupils will continue to sit tests in science as well.

Teacher assessment in maths, reading, writing and science will remain. Tests and assessments will reflect the 2014 National Curriculum and will be reported as a scaled score.

Levels will be replaced by scaled scores

Page 3 of a factsheet from the DfE looks at changes to National Curriculum tests (SATs). It explains that in the 2015/16 academic year, pupils' results will be reported as scaled scores rather than levels.

The expected standard will be a score of 100, and scores of above and below 100 will show pupils exceeding and failing to meet the expected standard.
